Finishing the Teacups Quilt Along from From My Carolina Home

Wrapping up the Teacups Quilt Along, today I’ll show you how I finished mine.  When we left off last month, the blocks were assembled with filler bits to take up the blank spaces between blocks of uneven size.

Now, what to do for borders?  I auditioned several prints, but all of them seemed too busy or distracting.

So I went with a black background fabric with a bit of gold print.  It reads more neutral and created a nice frame for the quilt.  Next was loading it on the longarm.

Teacups Quilt Along – Assembling the Top from From My Carolina Home

Now that we have 16 blocks, today I’ll show you how to put them together.  I’m not going to give you a pattern for this, as your blocks will look different than mine.  You may need to separate them differently than I have if your blocks have the same fabric on two or more blocks.  But what I will show is the method or process to figure out your best layout.

Teacups Quilt Along – Block 16 Japanese Tea from From My Carolina Home

As my regular readers know, I am fascinated with Japanese culture and way of thinking about the natural world.  So, I had to have a Japanese teacup design as the last block for this project.  It made sense too, since all of my fabrics are Japanese or Asian style prints.  This teacup has no handles.

I got out the box of Japanese fabrics and my paper piecing tools.  Once again, this pattern is simple enough that you could use the traditional piecing method by cutting apart the pieces and adding seam allowances.

Teacups Quilt Along – Block 15 from From My Carolina Home

Time for Block 15 for the Teacups Quilt Along, and this month we go back once again to a paper pieced block.  I’ve simplified one from EQ8 to eliminate a lot of tiny pieces on the handle.  You can do this with traditional piecing too, by cutting apart the pieces and adding seam allowances.

So, let’s begin by printing the pattern, and cutting the major sections apart.
